THE GRAVITY RAM

A New Source of
Power from the Tides

Keith Foster

When I was a school boy the aircraft carrier Eagle visited my home town of Hull and was open to the public. I went to see it twice and was surprised to find that it wasn't the same height on each visit. At low tide I could walk on the level over a gangway into the interior of the ship but at high tide I had to walk up quite a steep gangway to get on to the same deck. This was my first introduction to the worId of tides, their effect and most importantly of their power.

That first impression of a huge battleship weighing thousands of tons being lifted up and down by the tide has stayed with me alI my life and has formed the core of my thinking which led to the development of the gravity ram. The gravity ram is a simple device which uses the tides to generate power.

The gravity ram is the answer to many of today's power needs.
Once set in motion the gravity ram will operate twice a day almost forever and is not dependent on wind, fossil fuels, climate change or political whim.

Acknowledgements.
I would like to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of Commander John Barrington-Carver RN to this project. Without his input the gravity ram would have remained on my drawing board.

I wish also to thank Dr. Simon Chandler-Wilde of Brunel University for providing the performance figures in graphs on the gravity ram.
